This journal is about something that has been worrying me for several weeks now.
When I upload a photo to my gallery it happens quite often that, lets say, after ten minutes it recieved 5 views but 8 favs. How can this happen? It seems like some people (yes, I know it is not everyone) just drag and drop works from their message centre, from the front page etc. to their favs. When I visit these deviants fav-galleries oftentimes I find my work (the one they faved 10 minutes ago) on page five (!). I am sorry that I have to say that but I can’t appreciate this kind of favs at all! This kind of acting has NOTHING to do with appreciating art. When you fav a work this should reflect that it means something to you either because of its beauty, an interesting thought, a special view on life or anything else. Just be sure you really mean what you do! This place isn’t what it used to be when you press the fav-button 200 times a day (be aware of that!) It doesn’t give the kind of respect and appreciation art deserves, but I think what should connect people on this site is art. The only conclusion I can come to is that you do that because you think that it will make others recognize YOUR work, that it will promote YOUR art.
Be honest with yourself and others. Many works tell wonderful stories. Discovering what went through an artist’s head when taking a photo (painting a picture,… ) can be so much fun. We all want to say something with our work and we all want it to be understood. Any work deserves that you take at least a look at it before you fav it.
Just be aware of what you want to get out of this site. I think deviantart can be more than a struggle for ‘fame’/favs (but what kind of fame is that if you earn it that way?). Honestly, how can you expect real appreciation of the stuff you produce when you don’t appreciate the work others do?
If you fav works just because you hope that this will make people notice YOUR work why don’t you just look into a mirror?
If you don’t mean what you do you are cheating yourself and others.
